Annabelle Huggins And Ruben Ablaza Pictures Story
Annabelle Huggins, then 19, stated on October 23, 1962, that she was kidnapped against her will to Hagonoy, Bulacan, and defiled of her dignity by Ruben Ablaza, a portly cab driver who arranged the abduction with two others, Lauro Ocampo and Jose “Totoy Pulis” Leoncio.
Huggins was supposedly abducted from Makati on March 22, 1963, and transported first to Caloocan and subsequently to Bulacan, a more severe felony.
When Ablaza was captured and convicted in court, he claimed that the two were in love, that she willingly went with him, and that what he did was fashionable at the time.
Huggins’ testimony before Fiscal Pascual Kliatchko and a curious courtroom audience was the most anticipated element of the trial.
Ablaza claimed to be in a relationship with Annabelle around 1969.
Ablaza and the other two men were convicted of abduction and rape and condemned to death.
While the two men were hanged, Ablaza’s death sentence was twice overturned and commuted to life imprisonment by then-President Ferdinand Marcos. As a result, until the late 1990s, he spent the majority of his life in New Bilibid Prison.
Ablaza died of natural causes not long after his release.
