American R&B singer LaTavia Marie Roberson rose to fame in the late 1990s as a founding member of Destiny’s Child, one of the most popular girl groups in history. She made two albums, sold over 25 million records, and took home numerous honors, including two Grammys and three Soul Train Music Awards, while she was a member of the group.
With former member LeToya Luckett, LaTavia temporarily created a group named Anjel after quitting Destiny’s Child. Also, she has performed in a number of theater productions, including Those Jeans, How to Love, and Not My Family. She joined other well-known singers in the core cast of R&B Divas: Atlanta in 2014.
LaTavia and Beyoncé Knowles first came into contact when, at the age of eight, they both tried out for a local female group as rappers and dancers. They grew close and even collaborated on a music video for the song “One Time,” which almost resulted in them forming a band.
At primary school, LaTavia also ran up Kelly Rowland, whom she pushed to audition for the group. LaTavia started out solely rapping and dancing, but she eventually got vocal training and started singing at local events.
