Robin Nedwell (27 September 1946 – 1 February 1999) was an English actor who appeared in a number of films. Doctor in the House and its sequels are among his most well-known television appearances, although he has also been in other shows such as The Lovers, the Upchat Connection, the Climber, and the ATV comedy-drama Shillingbury Tales, among others. In his early years, he lived in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, before moving with his family to Cardiff, Wales, where he received his education at Monkton House prep school. He is married and has two children. After completing school, he went on to study at University College, Cardiff, where he became a member of the Welsh Theatre Company. He then went on to enrol at the Central School of Speech and Drama, where he studied Stage Acting. Apart from the “Doctor” series, he has appeared in a number of television shows, including Cluedo (1990), The Shillingbury Blowers, and The Zany Adventures of Robin Hood. Although he has appeared in films such as Vault of Horror (with his “Doctor” co-star Geoffrey Davies) and Stand Up, Virgin Soldiers, the majority of his roles were created for television. Nedwell rose to prominence later in his career as a result of his theatrical performances. In 1989, he had his West End debut in Brigadoon, and in 1992, he starred as Max Detweiler in a British tour of The Sound of Music, which was also performed at Sadler’s Wells. He is now a member of the Sadler’s Wells Alumni Association. During the 1995-1996 season, he appeared with the Royal Shakespeare Company, performing in performances of The Taming of the Shrew, Richard III, and Ben Jonson’s comedy The Devil is an Ass, among others. Nedwell married Heather Inglis, a public relations professional, in 1982, but the pair subsequently divorced. They were the parents of one daughter, Amie. After having a heart attack in Southampton, Hampshire, England, he died as a result.
