Richardson, a Dallas native, took up jogging at a young age. She was a standout athlete at Carter High School before going to Louisiana State University.

In her first year at LSU, she set a collegiate record by winning the 2019 NCAA title in 10.75 seconds.

She rose to the position of fourth-fastest American woman in history as a result. Sha’Carri finished first in the 100-meter women’s sprint at the US Olympic Trials in 10.86 seconds, earning a place in the 2020 Summer Olympics.
